I'm working on a revised edition of my Wittgenstein dictionary, which involves updating the bibliography. This turned out to be more laborious than I expected. It seems you need to buy software to do it the easy way. So just in case it helps anyone else, here is what I've come up with so far. It isn't complete for 2004 or 2013, it goes a little into 2014, and it's probably missing some things, but maybe it will be useful to someone.

missing mulhall's private language book, i think.
ReplyDeleteYou're right! I've added it now, with extra messed up formatting. Thanks for catching that.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the criteria for making the list? Why, e.g., is that damn Grasshopper-book there? Is it relevant? Isn't a reprint?
ReplyDeletewell, it wasn't very widely available before reissue, and even though it's DEAD RONG it does present itself as a substantial response to a significant seemingly unaddressed challenge in W's work.
ReplyDeleteWhat j. said, basically. I still haven't read it so I'm not going to declare that it's wrong, but even if it is wrong, it's still regarded as a significant challenge by some prominent people.
ReplyDeleteThe criteria are showing up on a WorldCat search for Wittgenstein or on the British Wittgenstein Society's book page and looking relevant to me. Or being mentioned by j. in comments here. It looks like I need a better way to identify relevant books.
thanks for the list, James Edwards Ethics without Philosophy had a big impact on my own understanding (for better or worse)and I enjoyed Thinking in the Ruins, on a sidenote here is Mulhall and Monk on philo/autobio:

Thanks! I liked Ethics Without Philosophy too, and remember Richard Rorty's praise for it on the back cover. I haven't read Thinking in the Ruins, but I think I should.
ReplyDeleteyes I came to it via RR, the Ruins book is worth a look as I remember it as was On Being in the World. Wittgenstein and Heidegger on Seeing Aspects by Stephen Mulhall.
Deletethe latter sorely needs reissuing.
DeleteI hadn't realized it was out of print!
