New books on Anscombe

Here are some books about Anscombe, either new or forthcoming, that might be of interest to readers of this blog:

A four-volume set of critical assessments edited by Roger Teichmann featuring papers by Reshef Agam-Segal, Kelly Dean Jolley, Cora Diamond, and me (among others). Forthcoming.

A Spanish translation of my Anscombe's Moral Philosophy: La Filosofia Moral de Anscombe, currently on sale. Available now!

The Moral Philosophy of Elizabeth Anscombe edited by Luke Gormally, David Albert Jones, and Roger Teichmann (including an essay by me). Due out March 15th.

Rachael Wiseman's Routledge Philosophy Guidebook to Anscombe's Intention, which is nothing to do with me, but sounds good. Forthcoming.

More from me at philpercs

On the strange idea that jobs you don't get are usually ones you are better off without and the surprisingly common idea that taking a (single) course will give people a skill or virtue they currently lack, e.g. critical thinking, writing, ethics.

Wittgenstein quiz

This OUP quiz is from last year but I've just discovered it today. Hint: you won't get the questions all right if you think Wittgenstein made a significant contribution to the philosophy of religion.

Meanwhile, at philpercs...

I have some thoughts about "Bad Wittgenstein," i.e. bad uses of things Wittgenstein said. I also have some comments about Catholic sexual ethics in which I manage, it seems to me, to be right but still lose the debate.

More on Williams

I have a third, and probably final, post at philpercs about Williams on Orwell and Merton on language here. I might try to write something about how Wittgenstein's work embodies the virtues that Williams identifies as belonging to good writing, but we'll see.

Rowan Williams on good and bad uses of language

I have a couple of posts at philpercs about this, here and here. I highly recommend Williams' lecture.

Free books

Lots of Springer books are available for free download, including one by me. Here (I hope) is Ethics After Anscombe.
